The Scottsboro Water, Sewer & Gas Board operates an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility with a current permitted capacity of 5-million gallons. Improvements are continuously being made to increase treatment capacity. We also maintain over 50 sewer pump stations throughout our service area. Raw sewage is transported from these pump stations to our plant. Upon arrival at the plant, the sewage is removed from the water through various processes. The remaining water is rigorously treated before being released back into the Tennessee River.
All of our plant operators are certified through training, testing and continuing education by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. We are continuously testing our treated water to ensure we are protecting our treasured resources by not releasing harmful substances into the environment.
